The Swiss League Against Epilepsy has a specialist journal once more: as of 2022, the Zeitschrift für Epileptologie will be produced jointly by the Swiss League Against Epilepsy and the German and Austrian epileptology associations.
The «three-country» journal is finally here: after a lot of preparation, the three German-speaking chapters of the ILAE have reached agreement on a joint publication. «We’re delighted that we have created a joint platform for close collaboration between the three organisations,» says Prof. Dr. Stephan Rüegg, who initiated the project while he was president of the Epilepsy League and chaired the negotiations as past president. «Now we can offer our members a specialist journal with authorship and content that transcend Swiss borders – making it future-proof.» The Zeitschrift für Epileptologie (epileptology journal) is published four times a year by the Springer Medizin Verlag.
The objective of the journal is to communicate and discuss the latest epileptology knowledge, featuring clinically relevant topics as well as current findings in basic research. The Zeitschrift für Epileptologie is primarily aimed at neurologists and paediatricians with a special interest in epilepsy diagnostics and therapy.
The new venture also enables the League Against Epilepsy to cater for the requirements of members who find it hard to read German: summaries of all articles and the announcements from the Epilepsy League are also published in French. Some of the articles are in English already, and in the future many texts will be available in English as open access documents, thanks to contracts between the publishing house and universities making this a cost-effective option. This will also increase the international readership of the journal, and it will be cited more frequently. The next steps for the journal are to be listed in PubMed and be assigned an impact factor.
